A sinusitis infection may start off simple: runny nose, cough, and congestion. But when it is not taken care of in time, it can lead to much more severe symptoms.

Sinusitis is generally caused by a cold or an allergy. When a cold or allergy takes place, swelling of the sinus cavity lining occurs. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities, they attack the swollen lining which then causes greater inflammation. The cilia is a part of the sinuses which usually flushes out the bacteria and mucus. When a large amount of inflammation occurs, the cilia can no longer function as it should and so the bacteria and mucus end up becoming trapped in the cavities and as a result the sinusitis infection takes place.

Frequently, the symptoms of an acute sinusitis infection may include cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is known as chronic sinusitis and can have added symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and fatigue may also be experienced. Other symptoms may also occur depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies in. A sinus headache may also occur. A sinus headache happens then the inflammation from the sinusitis infection pushes on the nerves. Other symptoms such as upper tooth pain may occur because of the pressure also.

There are numerous medications and treatments meant to offer relief to the sinusitis infection sufferer. One of the most common treatments is oral medications such as antibiotics, decongestants, and anti-fungals. Oral medications work on infections and other problems by traveling through the blood stream to the infected area. In the sinus cavities there are very few blood vessels. Since the oral medications use the blood stream to flow to the area where they are needed, only a small amount of the medication can be delivered to the sinusitis infection which may lead to little or no relief from the treatment. Also since these medications use the blood stream, it then is distributed through out the rest of the body also which can lead to many side effects such as stomach pain, drowsiness, amongst many others depending on which type of medication is being used.

There are also many treatments which are directly distributed into the sinus cavities. These treatments are generally meant to help moisten the cilia so that it can flush out the trapped mucus and bacteria. Nasal sprays are commonly used and can be prescribed or purchased over the counter. The nasal sprays may offer some relief to the lower part of the sinuses but often times may not help the infection since their particle sizes are too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection. The same holds true for a treatment called irrigation which distributes saline up to the sinus cavities. Irrigation is also very messy and generally unsuccessful in offering relief.

A newer treatment that is used nasally is aerosolized medications. Aerosolized medications are used very much like nebulized asthma medications. These antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories are broken down into a small particle size so that it can pass the inflammation and make its way up to the sinusitis infection. Generally a small amount of these medications are used which results in little to no side effects in the rest of the body.

There are many options on the market which are meant to offer relief for sinusitis infections. It is important to find the treatment that works best for you and to treat the infection before it worsens and surgery is then left as the only option.

The infection of the sinuses (cavities situated inside the skull, which are filled with air), also known as sinusitis is produced by bacteria, fungus and sometimes by pollutants and allergic factors. It can be acute or chronic and can lead to serious complications like the facial bone infection or the exacerbation of respiratory tract conditions, and the extension of infection to the brain and eyes.

There are different types of sinuses: frontal, maxillary, ethmoid, and sphenoid and the symptoms might differ when each one is affected; the symptoms also differ for acute and chronic sinusitis.

The role of the sinuses is not completely elucidated, scientists believing that the sinuses are important in absorbing impacts that occur from the front and preventing them from affecting the brain. They are also important in warming, moistening and filtering the inhaled air.

In the air there are numerous bacteria and when breathing we inhale them. If the cilia filter is malfunctioning, these bacteria can get blocked in the sinus cavities and produce an infection.

For acute sinusitis, that generally lasts 2-3 weeks, doctors recommend antibiotic treatment for 5 to 7 days. The chronic sinusitis lasts longer, about 6-8 weeks and it is more difficult to treat. Infectious sinusitis is generally caused by a bacteria; the non-infectious one is caused by pollutants and allergic factors.

The sinus infections affect every year 37 million Americans. Sinusitis also appears when the nasal membrane gets affected by pollutants, cold or dry air and becomes inflamed. People who have a weakened immune system (due to cancer, HIV, diabetes), children and elders can easily develop sinusitis. People who work in places exposed to infections, people who suffer of allergies, and smokers are more vulnerable to sinusitis than others.

If a patient has followed the classical antibiotic therapy and there were no signs of improvement the surgical therapy will be recommended because a complication could have occurred: the infection of the facial bones.

Some general symptoms of sinus infection are: headaches, fatigue, facial and upper jaw pains, and tenderness of the sinus area, sore throat, cough, colored nasal drainage, bad breath and swollen eye lids.

If symptoms last longer than 10 days you should call your doctor before any complications occur.

The doctor will diagnose sinusitis by looking inside the nose with an endoscope, then request for a computerized axial tomography, and even a MRI. Others might perform a rhinoscopy for looking into the back of the nasal passages.

Treating sinusitis is made with drugs prescribed by the doctor, and some home remedies.

The treatment must kill the bacteria, make facial pain and pressure disappear, clear up the nasal cavities and maintain intact the sinus and nasal tissues.

For keeping your cilia system intact and for avoiding or recovering more quickly after sinus infections you should drink hot tea. If you get hydrated, your cilia movements will improve and the mucus from your sinuses will be washed out, so you will cure faster. Chicken soup is also helpful.

Applying wet bandages on your face also helps. The compresses must be soaked in warm water in order to help the cilia move more efficiently. You must apply them three times a day and keep them for five minutes on your face. You can also use steam inhalations to minimize your nasal congestion.

The doctor will prescribe an antibiotic drug (oral or inhale drugs) if the sinusitis is caused by a bacterium; a decongestant, analgesics who will reduce the pain and corticosteroids to slow down the inflammation in the nasal cavities.

The most important thing is preventing sinus infections by keeping your nose clear, quitting smoking and treating well and as soon as possible any type of colds and allergies

Many people suffer from sinusitis every year. The sinuses are cavities in the skull which are used to make the skull lighter, give room for the skull to grow, and to cool down the inhaled air. There are four types of sinuses in humans which include the maxillary, ethmoid, sphenoid, and frontal sinuses. The maxillary sinus cavity is located below the eye and to the side of the nose below the cheeks. The ethmoid sinus and the sphenoid sinus are some of the most functional sinuses and are located between the eyes and under the nose. The frontal sinus cavity is located in the middle of the forehead.

The sinuses can cause many problems. The most common problem is a sinusitis infection. A sinusitis infection is caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavities. The blockage begins usually with a cold or allergy. The sinus cavity lining becomes swollen when a cold or allergy exists. When bacteria get into the sinus cavities, they attack the swollen lining which then causes greater inflammation. The cilia, which are tiny hairs in the sinuses, are used to flush out bacteria and mucus. When the inflammation from the bacteria occurs, the cilia can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus therefore it becomes trapped and the sinusitis infection begins.

There are many symptoms which can take place with sinusitis. Commonly, a person may experience cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is considered chronic and can have additional symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and the person may also become fatigued.

There are many forms of treatment for a sinusitis. Nasal sprays are one common treatment. Nasal sprays work by distributing saline solution up into the sinus cavities. Nasal sprays are meant to moisten the cilia so that the trapped bacteria and mucus can be washed out. The problem with nasal sprays however is that they have large particle sizes that cannot make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection. Oral antibiotics and other oral medications are also frequently used treatments. Oral antibiotics work on infections by flowing through the blood stream to the infected area. Oral antibiotics are usually ineffective when it comes to sinusitis infections due to the fact that there are only a small amount of blood vessels in the sinus cavities which makes it difficult for an efficient amount of antibiotic, along with anti-fungals and anti-inflammatories, to make it to the sinus infection. Another treatment that may be used is irrigation. Irrigation, like nasal sprays, is meant to moisten the cilia so that it can function properly. Also like nasal sprays, it is difficult for it to make it through the inflammation and to the sinuses. Irrigation is also usually a very messy treatment.

Surgery is a treatment option which is usually used when all other treatments have failed. Sinus surgery is painful and usually only offers short term relief since during the surgery they only remove a portion of the inflammation and infection which causes the infection to usually return. Many sinusitis suffers end up having several sinus surgeries in their lifetime.

Our sinuses have important functions and it is important to keep them clear from infection and preventing it from getting to the point of surgery. A sinusitis infection can become an inconvenience in many ways and also may cause future problems for the sinus cavities. It is best to take care of a sinusitis infection at the beginning and to prevent it from becoming chronic and from leading to surgery.

Every year, numerous people suffer from sinusitis. There are many factors which contribute to these peoples sinusitis problems. Most commonly, the sinusitis will begin because of a cold or allergy though it can also develop because of fungal infections, reflux disease, and many other diseases such as cystic fibrosis. The sinusitis itself begins when the sinus cavity lining becomes swollen, usually because of a cold or allergy. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities and attack the swollen lining, greater inflammation occurs which causes the cilia, which usually flushes out mucus and bacteria that pollute the sinus cavities, to not function properly and therefore the bacteria and mucus become trapped which then causes the sinusitis infection.

There are many different kinds of symptoms that may be experienced with a sinusitis infection. Some of the most common symptoms which may appear as cold like symptoms are cough, congestion, postnasal drip, green nasal discharge, and facial pain and pressure. A person may also experience a headache or even tooth pain due to the pressure of the inflammation pushing on the nerves in face. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is then considered chronic sinusitis. With chronic sinusitis a person may also experience loss of sense of taste and smell and they also may become fatigued.

There are numerous treatments which are used for a sinusitis infection. One common treatment which is used is over the counter or prescribed nasal sprays. Nasal sprays work by distributing saline solution or medication up into the sinuses. The nasal sprays however have a large particle size that cannot make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to where the infection lies. The nasal sprays may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses. Oral antibiotics are also a commonly prescribed medication by physicians. Oral antibiotics work on many types of infections by flowing through the blood stream to the area of infection. The sinus cavities only contain a small amount of blood vessels therefore it is difficult for an efficient amount of antibiotic to arrive at the sinusitis infection. Oral antibiotics also can cause problems throughout the rest of the body, such as abdominal pain. Another newer form of treatment is aerosolized medications. Aerosolized medications work great because they are directly distributed into the sinus cavities so that they can cure the problem where it started.

Home remedies are also frequently used. Some people may breathe in hot steam. The steam is meant to help moisturize the sinuses and help thin the mucus. Though the steam may offer temporary relief and help some symptoms, in there is in fact an infection, only antibiotics may help cure it. Irrigation is also another common home remedy. Irrigation is used by inserting saline solution in to the sinus cavities to also help moisten them. Just like steam, this may only offer temporary relief and medication will need to be used.

Another option in treating a sinusitis infection when all other treatments have failed is sinus surgery. Sinus surgery is painful, can leave scar tissue which can lead to future problems, and usually only offers temporary relief since only a portion of the inflammation and infection is removed and so the sinusitis infection often returns.

Just like in any medical condition, different treatments work for different people. In sinusitis it all depends on what stage the sinusitis is in along with other factors. What is important is finding the treatment form that works best for you and treating the sinusitis before it gets to a chronic stage that may create more problems and involve more extreme treatment options.

There are various effective treatments for sinus infection but before we venture into the form of treatment, a fundamental understanding of sinusitis is essential. Basically, it is the inflammation of the sinus cavities that can result from viral, fungus or bacterial infection as well as environmental and allergic reaction. It can be caused by structural deformities too.

Para nasal sinuses are essentially pockets of air spaces in close proximity to the nasal cavity that existed within the bones of the skull and face. They are divided into maxillary sinuses, frontal sinuses, ethmoid sinuses and sphenoid sinuses. When sinusitis occurs, it is the result of inflammation and congestion of the sinus cavities that blocked the mucus from draining.

The objective of providing treatments to sinusitis is to remove the often painful and uncomfortable symptoms that might lead to sinus infection. We have to consider the risk factors before embarking on the treatments for sinusitis as they usually occur right after a cold or flu. Allergies to dust, pet, pollen, cigarette smoke, etc can cause sinusitis but the less common factors are due to the deficiencies of the immune system and structural deformities for instant polyps, tumors, bone spurs and a deviated septum.

Antibiotics can be effective for treatment of bacterial infection but in the case of a viral infection, an anti-fungal drug can be prescribed. On top of that, a decongestant may be prescribed together to assist in reducing the inflammation. For thinning the mucus, an expectorant can be used in conjunction with antihistamines, which is solely for inflammation. If sinusitis persists, then nasal steroid may be used to promote mucus drainage and treatment of the swelling.

Other essential home remedies that can be useful is the use of humidifier that can reduce dryness that irritate the sinus membranes as well as salt water nasal spray to moisten the nasal passageways so as to be rid of irritants and bacteria. In addition to, sticking to proper diets can be useful too. Medicinal herbs can be effective in strengthening the immune system. As for chronic sinus infection, acupuncture can be helpful and the use of steam two to four times a day can improve circulation.

Whatever treatment you utilize, remember to drink plenty of water or fluid so that mucus can be drained easily. Smoking is bad for sinusitis as the inhalation of the smoke can give rise to inflammation and worsening the condition. Smoking can increase mucus production and prolong the infection.

In combination with the above treatments, try to stay indoors when pollution is bad. As well as when you are sleeping, elevate your head with support pillows to promote healing and effective drainage. The best form of treatment is to keep to a proper diets and exercise.

For everyone who is suffering from a sinus infection, curing it, is usually top on their agenda. A sinus infection involves the inflammation of the sinus tissues a process which leads to the surface tissues swelling. This occurrence usually takes place because of infectious actions of microorganisms like bacteria residing inside the respiratory tract, allergic reactions in the body or because of structural abnormalities in the respiratory tract.

The swelling action causes an obstruction of air flow towards the sinuses and at the same time tamper with the nasal drainage system. When this happens, the patient is subjected to nasal congestion brought about by mucus accumulating in the nostrils, constant headaches, coughing, sneezing, difficulty in breathing and finally discharging pus-like nasal fluid. All these experiences make the patient uncomfortable and drowsy at times and for this reason alone, a cure for the infection ought to be looked for. To cure a sinus infection, one is required to be diagnosed by a doctor so that appropriate medication can be prescribed to you.

Medicines like antibiotics have over the years been used to cure sinus infections. The reason behind this is that, antibiotics affect the formation of the outer cell structures of bacteria and without the cell structures, bacteria can not survive. Therefore, when the bacteria are killed, the infection finally stop and the patient gets cured that way.

Common antibiotics include Amoxillins which need to be taken according to the doctor’s instructions in order to have effective outcomes. Another way to cure a sinus infection is by using nasal sprays like Atrovent for your sinus condition treatment. Nasal sprays work by shrinking the sinus swellings in the nostrils and help air in the pathways to be allowed to flow to the sinus cavities. When the air reaches the sinuses, oxygen found in the air reacts with the bacteria which are mostly aerobes:-organisms that get affected by the presence of oxygen in their surroundings and in the process, harming them. Once the bacteria are killed, it is very hard for the sinus infection to persist since no more inflammation of the sinus surface tissues continues to take place.

For sinus infections precipitated by allergic reactions, antihistamines are the best cures for you. They work by fighting the work of the histamine that is responsible for the swelling up of the sinus surface tissues. Histamine is a body compound that is realized when allergic reactions occur in the body. When the patient has a lower immunity count, the compound inflames the lining of the sinuses making it to swell in the end and lead to the sinus infection since the immune system does not have enough white blood cells and required antibodies to fight the effects of histamines.

Commonly used antihistamines today include Allegra and Claritin. They can be bought over the counter and be taken according to the doctor’s instructions. However, antihistamines are known to make the patient feel drowsy after consuming them and therefore it is highly recommended not to drive after taking these medicines.

When the sinus infection is brought about by structural defects, surgery is most of the time the preferred way of curing this condition. For this to take place, your clinical history has to be looked at first before the procedure is undertaken by your doctor. If you are fit to have the surgery, numerous procedures are usually available so as to attain the best results. One type of surgical procedures commonly used to cure a sinus infection is the Functional Endoscopic sinus surgery.

The procedure involves the insertion of a very thin fiber optic tube known as the endoscope directly into the nostrils so that the surgeon can see the openings of the sinuses. Once this is achieved, the surgeon uses appropriate instruments to successfully remove any obstructive and abnormal tissues that are believed to be the causes of the sinus infection. Doctors prefer this procedure more than the others since it is less extensive and involves less removal of the patient’s normal tissues and it is possible for it to be undertaken on an outpatient basis.

Before your treatment for sinusitis, you should have a basic understanding of what sinusitis is. It is the swelling of your nasal sinuses that can be cause by a bacterial, fungal or viral infection or even other factors such as allergic reactions or due to environmental elements. The sinus cavities, mainly above your eyes and behind your cheekbones, have mucus secretions that, if blocked from draining can grow thicker and become inflamed.

Your treatment for sinusitis will very much depend on your risk factors for this inflammatory condition. Infection is usually the major cause of sinusitis and often follows on the tail end of a bad cold or even the flu. Having allergies to pollen, dust, pet dander, cigarette smoke, smog and even excessive dryness due to central air or heat can also trigger sinusitis.

Less common risk factors of sinusitis comprise immune system deficiencies and even nasal structural abnormalities. Polyps, a deviated septum, tumors or even bone spurs in the sinus cavity can also add to sinusitis. Knowing how you develop this condition will help in result a treatment for the condition.

Course of antibiotics are frequently prescribed by a doctor as the primary treatment for sinusitis. Anti-fungal medications may be prescribed and in addition, a decongestant may be prescribed as well to help with the swelling of the nasal tissues.

An expectorant can help with the thinning of the mucus secretions so that you may expel them easier and these are often paired with antihistamines which help with inflammation only. When a tougher treatment for sinusitis is required, the doctor may prescribe a nasal steroid which will work harder to help reduce sinus swelling and promote sinus drainage.

For non-medicated options of treatment for sinusitis, a salt water nasal spray can aid keep the nasal passageways moistened as well as rinse out bacteria and other irritants that may be lying claim to create an infection. On top of this, a humidifier is also a great way to reduce indoor dryness which can irritate the sinus membranes, causing sinusitis.

Other simple methods that can be used for treating sinus infection include eating a proper diets as too is making use of homeopathy which when taken along with antibiotics, will help resolve the inflammation as well as the infection. Another useful method engaged, which is completely natural, is to take herbs that will help in stimulation of the immune system though you need to ensure that you take the correct herbs that act on the body’s physiology in the best manner possible, and before choosing a home remedy, you must consult your doctor to get the right advice.
And, if you inhale steam twice or even four times in a day, it could prove to be very helpful in treating sinus infection because it helps to ease the air circulation through your sinuses. Another option for treating sinus infection is to flush the sinuses a few times in the day and there are some saline nasal sprays which are sold commercially that can also be used, while mixing a tablespoon of salt into three hundred ml of water along with a dash of baking soda can very much help flush the sinuses.

A very simple yet very effective means of treating sinus infection is to drink a lot of clear fluids that makes the mucus turn liquid and thus can be drained from the cavities of the sinus. You could also drink herbal teas that include with fenugreek, sage as well as anise that will help drain the mucus, and another useful action would be to give up smoking which will help in reducing the inflammation and also irritation that is caused by smoke when it enters the airways in the sinus, and thus you won’t be exacerbating the sinus problem. In any case, smoke from the cigarette in fact increases the production of mucus and therefore you will suffer from prolonged infection which can also not be easily cured.

There are a couple of reasons why it is so important to get an accurate diagnosis from your doctor before using antibiotics for a sinus infection. First, treating conditions with antibiotics that are not true infections will not only be ineffective, it can also be absolute dangerous. By overusing antibiotics, you can make immunity to the effects of the medications, leaving you much more vulnerable to the many bacteria that are in our environment. The other problem with antibiotics is that the widespread use has resulted in a number of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria, making it more difficult for doctors to be able to effectively treat some types of infections. This is why an exact diagnosis is so important before using antibiotics for a sinus infection.

Sinus infections can be painful as much as necessary to interfere with your daily activities, but the treatment options can prove to be quite effective. One of the most common medications that are given are antibiotics for sinus infections, and with the help of your doctor you can get to decide which is the best antibiotic for you.

Ever had allergies or colds that would not go away? If you feel like you cannot breathe properly due to a blockage in your nose, there might be an infection on your nasal passages and sinus cavities. Have yourself checked out by your doctor because you might already have sinusitis and in need of cure sinusitis solutions.

The symptoms for sinusitis sound like they should not cause such a big deal. Common symptoms include headache, stuffy nose, facial pain, fever and excessive mucus discharge. These may not hurt that much, but having to deal with the abovementioned pains and discomforts for a long period of time or for several times in a year can have a significant impact on how you live your life.

Sinusitis is a very common condition. That is why there are a lot of easy steps you can take to cure it.

The Natural Way

•	There are times when all you need to feel better from sinusitis is to relax and let your body take care of itself. Give your immune system an opportunity to do its job by providing adequate rest, sleep, food and liquids to your body.

•	Take away the clutter around you that may aggravate your sinus problems – this includes dust particles, allergens and pet dander. Ease your mind into a peaceful state to prevent any negative energy from upsetting your physical condition. Surround yourself with stress-free people.

•	Nature can also supply you with several home remedies to cure sinusitis. Drinking hot liquids such as tea and soup can relieve your nasal passages from congestion. Doing this will also moisten as well as soothe your mouth and throat from the pressure felt by your sinuses.

•	There are various kinds of herbs and essential oils that you can also use as natural decongestants and pain relievers. Ask from your local store on what kinds will work best for your particular case of sinusitis.

The Medicated Way

•	Of course, if your sinusitis does not go away by taking simple and all-natural steps, you might require medication. Antibiotics are the most commonly prescribed drugs for sinusitis.

•	But it is important to take the time with your doctor to understand how you should treat your sinusitis medically. Antibiotics will not work for all types of sinusitis. For instance, if your sinusitis is caused by a virus, antibiotics will have no curing effect for you.

•	Custom compound medications, anti-inflammatory or anti-fungal drugs can also help cure sinusitis. These medicines may be in the form of pills or tablets that you easily take orally. Others are in the form of liquid solutions that can be sprayed, inhaled or applied on the skin.

•	There is an aerosolizing device available that can be used for applying the medicine you need. This device distributes a fine mist into your nose to get to the source of your sinusitis. In just a matter of minutes, you will feel the effects and experience sinus relief. The latest technology is for you to get the most convenient and optimal cure for your sinusitis.

Whether you decide to take the natural or the medical way, there will always be easy steps available for you to take against your sinusitis. Even if you feel that sinusitis can beat you slowly and surely, do not despair. Take immediate offensive and preventive action, and you will surely get rid of sinusitis in no time.

Sinusitis infections are a common condition which many people suffer from each year. There are many factors which contribute to a sinusitis infection. Frequently, the sinusitis will begin because of a cold or allergy though it can also develop because of fungal infections, reflux disease, and many other diseases such as cystic fibrosis.

There are many types of symptoms that may be experienced with a sinusitis infection. Depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies, there may also be other symptoms experienced.

There are several treatments which are used to treat a sinusitis infection.

By now, everyone would agree with me that, having a sinus infection is most probably the most annoying situation one could ever find himself in. A sinus infection is an inflammation of the sinus surface tissues brought about by different factors including microorganisms present in the respiratory tract, allergens that are inhaled from the environmental air and finally, structural abnormalities in the respiratory tract. These microorganisms include bacteria, viruses and sometimes fungi while the common allergens known to precipitate sinus infections include pollen, mold and dust. Structural abnormalities on the other hand, may be such as, the adenoids problem in children which tends to swell and cause an air obstruction in the respiratory tract and lead to a sinus infection and the presence of polyps in adults. With all these factors present, the patient is forced to undergo severe symptoms of sinus infections like, having a difficult time in breathing, constant headaches, terrible coughs, discharging nasal fluids without control and occasionally not being able to smell any type of scent or odor.

Due to this reason, the patient usually has no option but to seek appropriate ways of treating the infection. One way of treating sinus infection is through the use of home remedies. These remedies include steam inhalation which help moisturize the nostrils and in the process increase the movement of the cilia :- little hairs found on the surfaces of the nasal cells. When the cilia movement is increased, mucus present in the air passages of the nostrils is removed and as a result of this, air is left to freely flow to the sinus cavities. The presence of air in the sinus cavities means that the oxygen inside the air is able to kill the infectious bacteria due to the fact that they are usually anaerobes (organisms that die in the presence of oxygen). After the bacteria are dead, the infection is forced to end too hence the patient being treated. Rubbing of warm wet pieces of clothing on the faces of children especially between and below their eyes, is believed to be another home remedy of treating sinus infection. This process helps the child to have an improved circulation inside the sinusitis and in the process help decongest the nostrils by cilia washing away any content of mucus present in the air passages and also help improve the baby’s sinus drainage system thus avoiding accumulation of microorganisms in the sinus cavities something that will help treat the sinus infection.Another way used in treating sinus infection is through the use of medicinal approach. This method requires you to consult a doctor and let him conduct a proper diagnosis on you. By doing this, the doctor will be able to know the actual cause of the infection and will be in a better position to advise you on the appropriate course of treatment that is likely to work on you. Antibiotics especially the Amoxillins, are most of the time used to treat bacterial infections the reason being that, antibiotics tamper with the formation of the bacteria outer cell walls. Without the cell walls, bacteria are incapable of surviving and therefore, they are forced to die hence bacterial sinus infection is stopped and the patient gets well.

Nasal sprays such as Atrovent are also popular medicines prescribed by doctors to their patients. These medicines help in treating sinus infection by shrinking any type of swelling found to block air from accessing the sinus cavities. For sinus infections caused by allergies, antihistamines like Allegra are the best option in this case. The reason for saying this is, the antihistamine fight against the work of histamine in the body which is believed to be the body compound responsible for allergy sinusitis. However, one has to brace himself for drowsiness as one of the major side effects. When it comes to sinus infections caused by structural defects, surgery is usually the best option in treating the sinus infection once and for all. Removal of adenoids in children and polyps in adults is most of the time the primary goal of these surgical procedures and once done, the patient usually gets relieved immediately.

To prevent the infection from occurring again, doctors usually advise their patients to always continue with constants checkups so as to be able to stop any slight sign of development of the infection immediately it occurs.Wangeci Kinyanjui is an expert on research and reporting on Health Matters for years. To get more information on treating sinus infection visit her site at TREATING SINUS INFECTION
